Old idea new admin

So this morning I had an idea. A while back (when I started this website) I also created/played around with the idea of creating a tracking list thing that would allow me to add films I found out about and wanted to see. That way I wouldn't forget about a random film I spotted online or heard about as it woudl be on this list. I built and got working a tester but soon after this became a place to store any links to things online I also played about with encrypting the items and using salts and such. The end product was a little application that seeing as I forgot my log in I can't get back in and all the entries in the db are encrypted so I can't work them out.

I tried to be too smart for my own good and used the users password as part of the salt and encryption that way unless you get the password and username right you cant decrypt the log in details, which in turn means you can apply part of these to the salt to then decrypt the DB data. Yaye for being smart boo for being stupid to me.

The idea of these lists then worked their way into the site as we have lists to do with the films on the site but there is no way to keep a list of films that are not listed so that makes keeping a list of films you want to see impossible in it's current form. Now I could easily modify and add to the site database and add in new functionality to the admin section to add and track films on lists that I want to see but and this is a BIG BUT. That is not what this site was about, this site is supposed to be for me to log and track all the films I watch.

So I have come to a compromise as this is functionality I would like to have as it would mean I could easily keep track of films I want to watch and would make it easier for me have this in one place to help when tracking them down. So I have decided to create a new section in the admin part of the site, that allows me to add films to a tracker list. This would only hold the name year and possibly a link to more info on the film (IMDB, Wikipedia, films website etc). I could also set if I have got it to watch so I can see a list quickly of the films I should be looking to watch and then when I watch the film I can then hit a button on it on the list that could pass in the info I have on that film to the add new film to the DB. Thus starting the process of logging it as a film I have watched and I am now entering into the DB.

Hopefully this bit of added functionality will help me and prove useful, it also wont be difficult to add this in based on all the functionality I have and the fact that this will now be stand alone functionality and wont have to be integrated into anything I already have built other than the admin section. The hope is to get this all in place, test it and have it fully functioning within the next couple of weeks. Normally I woudl aim to have this done in a couple of days or by the end of this week but it is quite a busy week with work so I think 2 weeks would be more than enough time.
