Fruitful beginnings

I know I have another couple of flash games planned and working away in the background, but this project is to get me back into the way of using action script and flash. As in the last few years my flash usage has been very limited so I need a way to ease myself back into using it. So what better way then creating something for OJF.

This game is to be very simplistic to code and put together (isn’t that always the way before they become a beast to put together), to help me get accustomed again with flash and action script quickly. The idea behind this game is from an old 8-bit game from my childhood that I doubt anyone of you all have ever played. Ive taken the idea of that game, changed some aspects of it and have a plan for a game that’s a little bit of a homage to it, but not the same as its not a clone.

The basic idea of the game is that you, are in a maze which has upwards of 10 levels and you have to find your way through all these levels to escape. Sounds easy enough yeh? Well the maze is electrified so touching the walls of the maze is instant death, throw in creatures you have to battle or avoid in each level and its getting harder still.

Im still not sure about adding in a weapon for your character, but if I do there will be an ammunition amount put on top of this to keep the level of difficulty higher. Their will also be objects you can collect in each level to increase your points total. Im also playing with the idea of tracking level times and adding level high scores along with total high scores.

Well that’s all so far, ive done some preliminary page designs, and will put together a quick first maze so I can test a few bits and pieces. I also need to design a main character in an 8-bit style now that’s going to be tough. Time to go searching through some very old spectrum, c64 and amastrad game scans for inspiration.
