On the final Straight
Well the new design went down very well, it was fresh and white and very minimalist in comparison to the old design and many of her artists friends websites.
So a new template was pieced together using this new design, tested and validated and it all worked first time around. Everything was flowing almost too easily. With the new design quite plain the font that I had chose to use had become a bit part of the design and instead of just using images for the font based parts I wanted to embed the font (seeing as It was free for use), using CSS3. This how ever proved an issue cross browser as the font itself was rather thin and to make it legible enough a bigger font weight and boldness had to be added. This gave differing views depending on what browser you were viewing the site in.
after much consideration, I had to go with 2 parts of the site as images (one had to as the font was vertically) the other it was just to make sure that the logo stayed as it should do. But the navigation would be all CSS font driven instead and after a lot of tweaking I finally managed to find an acceptable compromised between all the browsers. I did have to check server logs and work out what percentage of browsers visited the site first and added weight from that to my choice.
Like Christine promised all her new content arrived in emails and as each did I created the pages and pieced the site together page by page. A smaller more concise gallery was put in place and before we knew it the site was done. Admitedly there was a bit of a rush on in the end to get it ready for the deadline more to do with changes being made and it difficult to get an answer back from Christine as she was just so busy with the exhibition. But all in all the site is looking good, fresh and new but most importantly she likes it.
