Way point achieved
It has been a struggle working on this project due to the evaporation of spare time to undertake any work. But we are finally here at the first way point I set for the project. We have a fully functioning quizz!
There have been some modifcations to the project plan on the way but nothing of real note. The main one is that there is now a set amount of questions that must be asked before you can be re-asked a question again, at the moment this is set to 16. In the future this may be changed but I feel 16 is a good number.
I also have decided that the answers that are given up for questions should change order. So each time a questions answers are randomised and you should theoretially have less of a chance of seeing them in the same order. The reason for this is that it stops people learning that the order to answer a question not and answer. This is an issue we have found with the WFTDA multiple choice quizz, as some skaters seem to learn which answer number is right not the actual answer itself. So in mixing up the answers this should always keep them on their toes.
There has also been a test much like this project that has appeard online in recent weeks, by another league in America. This has put a dampener on the project a little but I still aim to have it all done and finished and origionally it was for my league not for everyone else. So anything that helps our skaters is a good thing.
With the current functioning version of the rules test, i have passed it over to some other members of the leagues web team to play about with and try and break or find issues with. There are a few bugs i need to look into but those are minor things. I also had to change the way I had intended some parts to work due to a law change in the UK to do with cookies. So now everything is dealt with session variables. I had hoped to use cookes to store previous information but to be honest it was never a key part to the project so was easy to drop. There now is a bigger plan that we could create a log in feature for skaters in our league to create a profile and take a test of say 10/20/30 random questions and they have their score saved at the end. They can then look back at previous scores and see if they are getting any better, also we could possibly work in some sort of statistics or something in the project if we get it that far.
The working version at the moment does all the things it set it out to do at the begining of the project and I encountered little to no problems in the coding of it all. Currently there are abound 44 questions in the database. This has been the most difficult part of the process as it has just been me thinking of questions to full the database so we have somethign to use in the future and something that can be used just now to test.
