CMS plugins
So last week I gave ross over a list of plugin's that I thought we could give a shot to in the cms to do some of the things we are wanting to achieve. He got back to me today to say that he had installed them all so off I went to have a little play about with them. I must say though this CMS is quite bare bones, so people who use the likes of WordPress and expect lovely plugin admin pages to do all the necessary things, erm you will be disappointed.
Through trial an error and a lot of the time going onto pages created by the plugin author I was able to get most (apart from 1) working. The one that refused to work was missing a file so ross being the one who installed them and having access to the server is going to look at it and hopefully get it sorted.
I have to say though I got the slider working which looks pretty good although not to customisable but enough for what we need. The new manager works a treat, so we can drop it into 1 page and it will deal with all the managing of new posts without having to add loads of pages. The contact form plugin doesn't really work the way we want so we will have to have a look at a different one and all the other plugins were for minor bits and bob's that should all help with the template.
Talking of which I did some more work on it today, to refine some parts of the navigation, sort the issue of the current selected menu option being rolled over (before it did what all others do now it has its own behavior). I also got a load of font from google font to add in and try to give the site a more designed feel rather than just using the bog standard Ariel font. I also fixed some of the gif's we were using moving them over to png's as the gif's just looked to bitty. I know that in older versions of IE PNG's wont show up properly (IE6 im looking at you) and I know that IE 7 and 8 have some issues now and again as well which ill address through a specific set of css for those browsers. As although we aren't really looking to support these browsers as they are fairly old we want this site to work in as many browsers as possible seeing as its not a difficult site. I do know though that problems will start to occur when we implement bootstrap into the template as bootstrap 3 doesn't work in ie7 or 8. But there are things we can do to fix all of this with a little extra browser specific css as well.
